GST return filing due dates explained

Every GST-registered business must file periodic returns reporting its outward supplies, input tax credit and tax liability. The two core returns are GSTR-1 (details of outward supplies / sales invoices) and GSTR-3B (a summary return with tax payment). Each return has a fixed statutory due date, and the GST due date you need depends on your filing frequency — monthly or quarterly under the QRMP scheme.

This GST return due date checker lets you pick a return type and tax period to find its exact filing deadline, so you never miss a GSTR-1 or GSTR-3B due date. Remember that the government can extend specific deadlines through notifications, so always confirm on the GST portal.

Monthly vs QRMP (quarterly) filing

Taxpayers with annual turnover above ₹5 crore must file monthly: GSTR-1 by the 11th and GSTR-3B by the 20th of the following month. Taxpayers with turnover up to ₹5 crore can opt for the Quarterly Return Monthly Payment (QRMP) scheme — filing GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B quarterly while paying tax every month via a PMT-06 challan. Under QRMP, GSTR-1 is due on the 13th and GSTR-3B on the 22nd or 24th of the month after the quarter, depending on the state group.

Late filing fees & interest

Filing a GST return after its due date attracts a late fee of ₹50 per day (₹20 per day for nil returns), split between CGST and SGST, subject to caps. In addition, interest at 18% per annum is charged on any unpaid tax from the due date until payment. Filing on time also protects your customers’ input tax credit and keeps your compliance rating healthy.
