Rent Receipt Generator (India)

Generate printable monthly rent receipts for HRA claims. Add landlord PAN, choose the rent period, and download as PDF.

Enter the tenant name, landlord name and monthly rent to preview your rent receipts.

These receipts are templates to help you claim HRA. Always get each receipt signed by your landlord, affix a revenue stamp on cash receipts above ₹5,000, and provide the landlord’s PAN where annual rent exceeds ₹1,00,000. This tool does not provide legal or tax advice.

How to use the rent receipt generator

Fill in the tenant (your) name, the landlord’s name, the rented property address and the monthly rent. Choose the rent period using the “from” and “to” months — for a full financial year, select April as the from-month and March as the to-month. The tool instantly builds one rent receipt for every month in that range and shows a live preview.

If your total annual rent crosses ₹1,00,000, add the landlord’s PAN so the receipts are valid for HRA exemption. When you are happy with the preview, click “Print / Download PDF” to save all receipts as a single PDF or send them straight to your printer.

Rent receipts and HRA exemption under Section 10(13A)

Salaried employees who pay rent can claim a House Rent Allowance (HRA) exemption under Section 10(13A) of the Income Tax Act. Rent receipts are the primary documentary proof your employer needs before allowing the exemption while computing TDS on salary, and the Income Tax Department can ask for them during assessment.

The exempt HRA is the least of: the actual HRA received, the rent paid minus 10% of basic salary, and 50% of basic (for metro cities) or 40% (non-metro). Use our HRA Calculator alongside this generator to work out the exact exemption amount.

Landlord PAN and revenue stamp rules

  • Landlord PAN is mandatory when annual rent exceeds ₹1,00,000 (roughly ₹8,334/month).
  • If the landlord has no PAN, attach a signed declaration with Form 60 details.
  • A ₹1 revenue stamp is required only for cash receipts above ₹5,000 each.
  • Rent paid by cheque, UPI or bank transfer does not need a revenue stamp.
  • Each receipt should be signed by the landlord to be valid proof.

For CA firms and tax practitioners

Chartered accountants frequently prepare a full year of monthly rent receipts when filing returns or finalising HRA computations for salaried clients. This generator removes the repetitive work — enter the details once, generate twelve receipts, and download a single PDF for the client file. Because everything is computed in your browser, no client data leaves the device.
